The Messerschmitt KR200 or Kabinenroller (scooter with cabin) was in production from 1955 to 1964. Messerschmitt had been forced to find an alternative to building aircraft as it was still 'Verboten' at the time. In 1952 Fend a manufacturer of invalid carriages approached them and the first vehicle they produced was the KR175. This was replaced in 1955 by the KR200 which although used the same basic shape was a complete re-design and proved very popular so much so that around 1200 were built in the first year. In 1956 Messerschmitt were allowed to produce aircraft again and moved away from micro-cars. The separate company that they had set up to build the cars Regensburger Stahl- und Metallbau GmbH and the Regensburger works were sold to Fend so the KR200 continued to be built. Top speed for the 191cc aircooled engine would be around 60 mph and it would cruise at 56 mph with two people. There is no actual reverse gear but turning the ignition key further the engine would run backwards so you would have four gears in reverse!
This die cast detailed scale model has a lifting canopy to reveal lots of interior detail too.
